The greek mythos is full of stories and ideas about Prophecies and a hero's destiny. For children’s novels, there are a lot of mentions of War and the idea of fate and Destiny. These gods unlike Poseidon and Zeus have no qualms about helping the Demigods every so often, especially when Zeus isn’t looking.Įventually, within the series, Percy discovers that he has a hidden destiny and starts making preparations for war. One of my favorite things about the first series is the number of times Percy comes across the many gods, specifically Apollo, Artemis, Hades, and Hermes. Relationships develop, and preconceived notions are changed as the characters go through the greatest battle of their lives.The first series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, touched on a lot of the myths and legends of Greek mythology we all learned in classrooms. Rick Riordan manages to bring light to the darkest of times and conveys meaningful messages of family, friendship, and righting the wrongs of those before you. From the banter between our favorite characters, to the fabulously entertaining fight scenes, the humor by which Percy narrates this story has certainly and thankfully not changed. From Achilles and Patroclus to Hercules, any fan of the classic stories will certainly be satisfied with the way their stories were tied to our favorite characters in this series. This book does a great job at integrating and giving new life to the old Greek myths.

One especially nice aspect of this sequel was the fact that you get to revisit old creatures and monsters, from the infamous Mrs. Each character grows into the role he/she was meant to play, whether the said role was expected throughout the series or not. Unlike with other series, the development of each of these complex characters seems appropriate and satisfying.
